Meet

the composer

Sara completed her Bachelor's Degree in Music composition at the Superior Conservatory Joaquín Rodrigo of Valencia where she studied among many accomplished professors as Francisco Tamarit, José Aparisi, Roberto Forés, Emilio Rernard, Claudia Montero and Andrés Valero-Castells. 

 

She has participated in several national and international composition competitions for symphonic band and symphonic orchestra in which she has won several distinctions and  awards.

Sara has scored the soundtracks of short films such as "Nevermore",  under the direction of Borja Pascual. This film was award-winning at several festivals and selected to being screened at the Beverly Hills festival, California. She also scored "Sigue contando" by Beatriz Olcina, which had the privilege of being screened at the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (Sitges). She also orchestrated "Plastic Killer" a shortfilm directed by Jose Pozo that was preselected as best live-action shortfilm at the Oscar Awards in 2023. Sara collaborated in projects for smartphone apps, videogames and has arranged orchestral pieces by other composers. Specializing in audiovisual music, she received private mentorship from composers such as Alex Conrado and Arnau Bataller.

She obtained a Film Scoring certificate at UCLA in June 2019. She worked at the company JoAnn Kane Music Service as a copyist, where she was part of the crew in movies as Star Wars IX, Frozen 2, Trolls 2, Maleficent 2, Doctor Dolittle, Onward among others, and TV series as The Mandalorian, Family Guy, Empire, The Simpsons, etc. As well as in live projects, highlighting the 92nd Oscar Ceremony Awards on February 2020.

She also worked for one of the most important multinationals in the gaming and leisure sector in Spain and in Latin America writing some music for their smartphone apps.

She has been part of the videogame jury of the Berlanga 2021 Awards, part of the jury of the Composition Biennal Award of Eivissa city 2022 and also part of the jury of the XII National Contest of Film Music Bands «Ciudad de Cullera and also of the XI International Percussion Festival / Percute Catarroja 2023.

She worked as a composer assistant in two music licensing companies that produce music for TV Shows, documentaries, movies and videogames in New York and Serbia. Currently she is working as an orchestrator for Oscar Araujo, one of the most popular videogame composers in Spain. 

Sara Galiana is also a renowned composer in the world of Wind Ensemble. His work "Stonage" was the mandatory piece for the second section in the 40th edition of the Wind Ensemble Contest of the Valencian Community. As for her most recent work for this template, she worked in 2023 on a commision for the CESM, composing the 3rd movement of the piece "Will For Change ODS's Suite" for Symphonic Band. She is currently in the process of recording a new commission piece, "Assur", for the Da Capo Elkartea Music Band. 

Awards

2024 Finalist in the National Contest "Medina Xateba" of orchestral composition for women.

2024 Runner Up in ScoreLive Competition, London 2024 with the orchestral piece "The Game".

2023 Winner of the 1st Female European composition contest for Symphonic Band, organized by the CIM

2022 Fideu Award at the Unió Musical de Moncada for her work as a Wind Ensemble composer. 

2020 Best Original Score in ISA Bronze Awards: November 2020 for "The Quiet Odyssey" directed by JingYao Wang.

2020 Runner Up in ScoreLive Competition, London 2020 with the orchestral piece "The Beginning".

2017 Winner of two 2nd Place prizes in categories Wind Band and Young Orchestra at “Música Jove” contest.

2016  Semifinalist in the prestigious composition contest "Maurice Ravel" held in Italy. 

2016 Winner of the contest for Symphonic Band Eivissa, Spain.

2007 1st Prize from the World Internet Day celebration with Marta Portalés in the Podcast Music Contest.
