Meet

the composer

Sara Galiana is a composer and orchestrator specializing in audiovisual music. She has received instruction from teachers such as Alex Conrado, Arnau Bataller, Carl Johnson, Damon Tedesco, Claudia Montero, and Andrés Valero Castells, among others. She obtained the Film Scoring certificate in Los Angeles, California, in June 2019.

 

She has participated in several national and international composition competitions for symphonic band and symphonic orchestra in which she has won several distinctions and  awards. She also has been a member of the jury for numerous music competitions.

Sara has scored the soundtracks of short films such as "Nevermore", directed by Borja Pascual. This short film was awarded at several festivals and selected for the Beverly Hills Film Festival, California. She also scored "Sigue Contando", directed by Beatriz Olcina, wich had the honor of being screened at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Catalonia. She also worked on the orchestration of "Plastik Killer", a short film directed by Jose Pozo, which was shortlisted for Best Live-Action Short Film at the 2023 Oscar Awards.

She worked as a copyist at JoAnn Kane Music Service, participating as part of the crew in movies such as "Star Wars IX", "Frozen 2", "Trolls 2", "Maleficent 2", "Doctor Dolittle", "Onward", among many others, and in TV series such as "The Mandalorian", "Family Guy", "Empire", "The Simpsons", etc. She has also contributed to live projects, including the 92nd Academy Awards in February 2020.

She has worked as an assistant composer in two music licensing libraries producing music for TV series, films, documentaries, and video games in New York and Serbia, and as a composer for smartphone apps, notably for the app "Yahtzee with Buddies" by Scopely. In addition, she works as an orchestrator and arranger for Oscar Araujo, one of Spain's leading video game composers, and Emilio Kauderer, an acclaimed Argentine composer. She orchestrated the triple-A video game "Blades of Fire" by MercurySteam and 505 Games, and she is currently orchestrating and composing for an animated series for Netflix.

She is also a recognized composer in the wind ensemble field. Her work "Stonage" was the required piece for the second section in the 40th edition of the Valencian Community Music Bands Contest. Regarding her most recent work for this ensemble, in 2023 she composed the third movement of "Will for Change Ods's Suite" for Symphonic Band for CESM, and in 2024 she composed the commissioned work "Assur" for Banda de Música Da Capo Elkartea, Bilbao. This piece will be the required work for the third section of the International Music Bands Contest Ciudad de Valencia 2026.

2024 Winner, Honor Mention and Gold Diploma in the "Emili Giménez Bou" International Composition Contest.

2024 Finalist in the National Contest "Medina Xateba" of orchestral composition for women.

2024 Runner Up in ScoreLive Competition, London 2024 with the orchestral piece "The Game".

2023 Winner of the 1st Female European composition contest for Symphonic Band, organized by the CIM

2022 Fideu Award at the Unió Musical de Moncada for her work as a Wind Ensemble composer. 

2020 Best Original Score in ISA Bronze Awards: November 2020 for "The Quiet Odyssey" directed by JingYao Wang.

2020 Runner Up in ScoreLive Competition, London 2020 with the orchestral piece "The Beginning".

2017 Winner of two 2nd Place prizes in categories Wind Band and Young Orchestra at “Música Jove” contest.

2016  Semifinalist in the prestigious composition contest "Maurice Ravel" held in Italy. 

2016 Winner of the contest for Symphonic Band Eivissa, Spain.

2007 1st Prize from the World Internet Day celebration with Marta Portalés in the Podcast Music Contest.
